Chill For Your Health

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying this insanely, unseasonably warm weather. While I am enjoying not needing to wear a coat, I can’t deny that I wish it were colder with at least a few mood snowflakes to get into the swing of the season. Speaking of the season, ‘tis the season to be busy busy busy. I don’t know about all of you, but I get so bogged down in trying to find the perfect gifts, dig up new cookie recipes, and maintain some semblance of a workout life that I sometimes forget how important relaxation really is! I hope that the information in this post will convince you to take a few minutes for yourself each day (this can be your workout if this relaxes you!). Your body and mind will thank you.

Believe it or not, rest days and relaxation are just as important as your tough workouts. Regular relaxation touts so many health benefits including lower blood pressure, reduced levels of anxiety, reduced levels of stress, increased focus, and less chance of developing cardiovascular disease. All these benefits, and yet we still have a hard time incorporating relaxation into our day. Our society and culture tends not to appreciate or put emphasis on relaxation, but you have the power to do what is right for your body – and your mind.

Incorporating relaxation into your day does not have to be time consuming or intense, it can be as simple as 5 minutes of meditation/deep breathing in the morning, taking up a relaxing hobby such as knitting or drawing, or even a walk with your pup. Whatever relaxes you, find time to incorporate it into your days and know that you are doing something good for your body and mind this season and all year ‘round.
